Vietnam, US seek to advance comprehensive partnership

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh and visiting Evan Medeiros, Special Assistant to U.S. President Barack Obama, had a talk in Hanoi on Tuesday, focusing on promoting the comprehensive relations between the two countries. 

>> Vietnam lauds US resolution requesting China to withdraw oil rig During the meeting, the two officials discussed measures for the two sides’ comprehensive partnership to continue developing, for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large. The Vietnamese official, who is also Foreign Minister, expressed his pleasure at the positive progress of Vietnam-U.S. relations in various fields from politics, diplomacy, defense, security, economy, to trade, education, and collaboration at regional and international forums. The bilateral ties have increasingly developed since the two countries established their comprehensive partnership a year ago, he added. Medeiros told his host that his visit was assigned by President Obama, aiming to speed up bilateral ties and cooperation in regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the East Vietnam Sea situation and a Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement. During the talk, the American official and Deputy PM Minh also discussed a number of issues in the Vietnam-U.S. ties as well as those related to the Asia-Pacific region.
