PM Pham Minh Chinh said Vietnam stands ready to support the parties involved in the Russia-Ukraine military conflict in seeking long-term peaceful solutions on the basis of international law and respect for their legitimate interests
He also met with his counterparts from the UK, Germany, Australia, and Italy
This is the third time for Vietnam to take part in an expanded G7 summit
Japan invited Vietnam, Australia, Brazil, the Comoros, the Cook Islands, Indonesia and South Korea to the summit, in addition to India
The leaders made their appeal ahead of a G7 summit in England which begins on Friday
'I’m postponing it because I don’t feel that as a G7 it properly represents what’s going on in the world'
The meeting was overshadowed by the absence of U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who sent his deputy in his place. One diplomat said it sent a message that he “had better things to do”
