Low-cost airline Vietjet announced plans to operate routes connecting Vietnam’s cultural, tourism, and economic centers with Seoul, South Korea, on Thursday.

This was meant to mark the inaugural Mekong-South Korea Summit and to celebrate 30 years of ASEAN-South Korea dialogue relations, the carrier said in a press release on the same day.  

The first Mekong-Korea Summit closed in Busan on Wednesday, following the two-day ASEAN-South Korea Commemorative Summit, which concluded on Tuesday in the same city.

Vietjet unveiled its plans to operate new flights linking Seoul and Da Lat, Can Tho, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc at the Vietnam-South Korea Business Forum in the East Asian nation on Thursday, witnessed by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Deputy Prime Minister of South Korea Hong Nam-ki, and senior delegations of the Vietnamese government and South Korean government.   

Vietjet’s routes are expected to become tourism, economic, and cultural bridges between the two countries, connecting South Korea to ASEAN, a vibrant region with great potential. 

According to the announced plans, the Seoul (Incheon) – Can Tho route will operate three return flights per week while Seoul (Incheon) – Da Lat will have four return flights per week, beginning in January 2020 with flying time of five hours per leg on average.

Vietjet will add more flights to the two existing routes Seoul (Incheon) – Nha Trang and Seoul (Incheon) – Phu Quoc in order to meet increasing passenger demand.

Speaking at the announcing ceremony, vice-chairman of Vietjet Nguyen Thanh Hung thanked the governments of Vietnam and South Korea for creating favorable conditions, developing good business environments, and encouraging business investment.

The airline pledged to keep carrying out the mission of offering flying opportunities to passengers by opening more routes in the coming time.  

Hung expected the good relations between Vietnam and South Korea as well as between ASEAN and South Korea would contribute to expanding the skies regionally and globally.

Vietjet is pioneering in South Korea with 11 routes, 480 flights per month, and operating the most flights connecting Vietnam and South Korea.

The Vietnamese carrier operates over 400 flights daily and has carried nearly 100 million passengers to date across an expansive network that includes destinations throughout Vietnam, India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, and mainland China.
