An event was held in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday evening to mark the 2022 Earth Hour, which saw the participation of Miss Vietnam H'Hen Nie and more than 80,000 volunteers across the country.

The 'Shape Our Future’ event marking this year’s Earth Hour was organized at the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Culture House in District 1.

Those who could not directly take part in the event in Ho Chi Minh City were still able attend it virtually via live streams on social media.

Young people have to be committed to protecting the earth, H'Hen Nie said, adding that they need to form such habits as riding bicycles and using public transport to contribute to environmental protection.

At 8:30 pm, delegates performed the ‘switching-off’ ceremony, calling for people in Vietnam to turn off their lights and electronic devices for one hour.

The country was able to save 309,000kWh of electricity this year, according to the National Load Dispatch Center.
