Le Thai Sam has been appointed new board chairman at Vietnamese carrier Bamboo Airways, as his Japanese predecessor Oshima Hideki resigned after assuming the post less than one month ago, the carrier announced on Tuesday.
Sam currently owns over 50 percent of the carrier.
The management board of Bamboo Airways last Saturday passed some decisions linked to its board members.
Specifically, it approved the resignation requests of four board members, including board chairman Oshima Hideki, permanent vice-chairman Nguyen Ngoc Trong, and two vice-chairpersons Doan Huu Doan and Phan Dinh Tue.
It then appointed new board members for the 2023-28 tenure to replace these four.
Aside from the newly-appointed board chairman Le Thai Sam, Oshima Hideki now serves as permanent vice-chairman at the carrier.
In addition, Le Ba Nguyen and Nguyen Ngoc Trong were picked as new vice-chairpersons.
Trong also assumed the post of Bamboo Airways CEO, replacing his predecessor Nguyen Minh Hai, who was named CEO of the carrier on May 24 this year.
The local airline explained that this management shakeup is part of its ongoing restructuring plan.
Last month, all five board members of the airline tendered their resignations ahead of a general meeting of shareholders slated for June 21, following the 2022 huge loss of over VND17.6 trillion (US$747 million).
These five included Nguyen Trong Ngoc, chairman of the board, Doan Huu Doan, Le Ba Nguyen, Le Thai Sam, and Nguyen Manh Quan.
Three members of the firm’s board of supervisors, namely Tran Anh Tuan, Pham Van Hung, and Nguyen Dang Khoa, also submitted resignations.
