A high school in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City has suspended a teacher who had six students hit their classmate with a plastic tube as a punishment for being late for school.
The teacher, named D., was suspended from work from Friday, Duong Van Thu, principal of Nguyen Thi Dieu High School in District 3, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on the same morning.
Other teachers will cover her classes starting next Monday, Thu added.
“The suspension for D. is meant to facilitate a review of her responsibilities,” the principal said.
Previously, the parents of K., a student in the 12A1 class at Nguyen Thi Dieu High School, reported to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that D., his homeroom teacher, instructed six of his classmates to hit him using a plastic tube after he was late for school on May 13.
D. even asked the students in charge of hitting K. to use more force when they were gentle.
The school board and its representative board of parents then convened a meeting with K.’s parents and D., where both the two boards and the teacher apologized to the family.
The school also pledged to prevent a repeat of such an incident.
However, the meeting failed to console K.’s parents.
Reportedly, May 13 was designated for 12th-grade students at Nguyen Thi Dieu High School to review their documents ahead of the important national high school graduation exam.
Despite being reminded by D. beforehand, K. arrived late to school, missing the opportunity to review his records.
