English language teachers in Hanoi on Tuesday participated in a training program focused on applying the linearthinking method in their teaching.
The Department of Education and Training in Hanoi, in collaboration with the Giao duc va Thoi dai newspaper and DOL English, a local thinking-based English academy, organized the training program titled 'Improving English Teaching and Learning Using Linearthinking' at Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.
Teachers explored and practiced new techniques to enhance their teaching skills and improve the use of English in classrooms, with a view to boosting student performance.

The training was led by Ha Dang Nhu Quynh, academic director at DOL English. She is currently a PhD candidate in education at the University of Reading in the UK and holds a master's degree in English teaching from the University of Nottingham, also in the UK.
The program was attended by Pham Tuan Anh, deputy general director of the Teachers and Educational Managers Department under the Ministry of Education and Training; Dang Tran Xuan, deputy head of the secondary education division under the Hanoi Department of Education and Training; Duong Thanh Huong, deputy editor-in-chief of Giao duc va Thoi dai; and 200 English teachers from high schools across the Vietnamese capital city.
Speaking at the event, Xuan noted that Hanoi students' English results in the 2024 high school graduation exam, held in late June, were good and their English proficiency had improved.
However, he emphasized that the municipal Department of Education and Training is still focused on enhancing the effectiveness of English teaching methods.

"The role of teachers is vital," he said, expressing hope that teachers would gain new and useful knowledge from the training program and subsequently share it with their colleagues and students.
Linearthinking, developed by DOL IELTS Dinh Luc, is a method of learning and teaching English in a critical, logical, and essential manner.
It is based on logical and mathematical thinking and examines the impact of the mother tongue (Vietnamese) on English study.
The method includes memorization techniques to improve Vietnamese learners' English skills, helping them learn the language thoughtfully, logically, and essentially while developing logical and critical thinking.

Linearthinking is a problem-solving method applicable to skills and students at all levels.
Its techniques include simplifying, reading connection, reading structure, building a sentence, speaking a sentence, thinking in English, linear paraphrasing, specifying, categorizing, linear frameworks, linear tools, mental models, and association, among others.
Linearthinking was created by the teaching team at DOL IELTS Dinh Luc and has proven effective for tens of thousands of students.
Alongside this method, DOL English has also successfully developed the DOL Super LMS, a comprehensive technology system designed to better English learning.
