Police in Ho Chi Minh City have coordinated with the U.S. Consulate General in the city to arrest a person suspected of using fake documents to apply for a U.S. visa, the consulate said in an announcement on Thursday.

An individual who had attempted to apply for a student visa to the U.S. was arrested on February 14 after submitting an appointment letter for an interview and an I-20 form (certificate of eligibility for nonimmigrant student status) which were both later determined as edited versions of previous applicants’ documents.

Police of Ben Nghe Ward in District 1, where the consulate is located, arrested the person in question outside the consular office’s premises and seized relevant evidence.

The case is currently being investigated by the District 1 police.
