Military Hospital 175 in Ho Chi Minh City was awarded the Diamond Status of the Angels Awards by the World Stroke Organization (WSO) on Thursday thanks to its efforts in stroke care and treatment.

The hospital under the Ministry of National Defense won a Platinum Status designation in the third quarter of 2022 after achieving Gold Status for several straight quarters by the WSO Angels Awards.

Since 2022, the hospital has made great strides in stroke care and treatment, allowing it to meet all criteria for a Diamond Status designation from the WSO Angels Awards.

According to Dr. Hoang Tien Trong Nghia, head of the department of neurology of Military Hospital 175, the hospital fulfilled all 10 criteria set by the World Stroke Organization in order to achieve Diamond Status. Gold Status and Platinum Status each have seven requirements.

Diamond Status is the highest designation given by the WSO Angels Awards.

The establishment of the ‘Code Stroke’ team contributed to the Military Hospital 175’s success in winning the WSO title.

The Code Stroke team is in charge of diagnosing and treating stroke patients quickly, helping them return to normal life.

Since 2020, the hospital has admitted and treated some 3,800 stroke patients suffering from ischemic stroke, intracranial hemorrhage, and subarachnoid haemorrhage.

Apart from its advanced stroke treatment methods, Military Hospital 175 is upgrading its facility to 1,000 beds and equipping it with modern machines.

The awards, featuring three levels – Gold Status, Platinum Status, and Diamond Status – are given quarterly with the aim of providing practical support to improve stroke care globally, recognizing and promoting best practices in stroke care, and sharing key research on the implementation of quality treatment.

The criteria for medical institutions to be awarded Diamond Status include 75 percent of patients treated from door to recanalization therapy in less than 60 minutes, 25 percent of patients receiving recanalization procedure out of total hospitalization cases, and 90 percent of all suspected stroke patients undergoing CT or MRI procedures.

In addition, 90 percent of all stroke patients undergo dysphagia screening, 90 percent of Ischaemic stroke patients are discharged with antiplatelets, 90 percent of atrial fibrillation-related stroke patients are discharged with anticoagulants, and stroke patients are treated in a dedicated stroke unit during their hospital stay.
