The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that rumors about Vietnam tightening visa policies for foreigners are unfounded.

“In terms of visa policies for foreigners, our priority is to create favorable conditions for foreigners to enter and exit Vietnam, as well as live in the country to contribute to its socio-economic growth,” spokesperson for the ministry Pham Thu Hang told a regular press briefing in Hanoi on Thursday afternoon.

The amended Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens and the revised Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam took effect on August 15, 2023.

Hang underlined that the law for foreigners is meant to facilitate the entry of citizens from all nations into Vietnam for study, work, investment, research, and travel in accordance with local regulations.

As per the amended law, the e-visa validity period is extended to 90 days from 30 days.

The law also allows citizens from 13 countries entitled to Vietnam’s unilateral visa exemption to be granted temporary residence for 45 days, up from the previous 15 days.
