In Vietnam, 2,000 Samsung workers gather after factory conflict

Nearly 2,000 laborers from the Samsung factory in the northern Vietnamese province of Bac Ninh have gathered to express their anger following a confrontation between some workers and security guards.

A crowd of approximately 2,000 workers from the Vietnamese branch of Samsung Display in Yen Phong District, Bac Ninh assembled in front of the facility to protest on Tuesday, according to local police officers.

The gathering occurred after a violent conflict had broken out at around 2:00 pm earlier the same day, resulting in one person being hospitalized.

Authorities arrived at the factory after receiving a call and were able to disband the large crowd by 3:00 pm.

Speaking with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper later that day, Pham Hung Son, director of the provincial Department of Police, said that the conflict happened between a group of workers and a security unit of the construction site.

In an announcement released that evening, Samsung Vietnam said that there was no disagreement between the company and its Vietnamese laborers.

The incident arose from a misunderstanding between the workers and security guards when a routine security procedure took longer than expected.

The gathering lasted for about 40 minutes before being dealt with by local officers.

The incident took place at the construction site to expand the factory of the Samsung Display branch in Bac Ninh.
