Vietnam is the most affordable country for expats in 2024, according to an Expat Insider 2024 survey recently released by Munich-based paid expatriate networking platform InterNations.
For the fourth year in a row, Vietnam topped the survey’s Personal Finance Index in 2024 among 53 destinations.
For the Personal Finance Index, expats rated three different factors, including the general cost of living, their satisfaction with their financial situation, and their disposable household income.
Among expats living in Vietnam, 86 percent rated the cost of living favorably, compared to a global average of 40 percent.
Meanwhile, half of them deemed it very good.
Over two-thirds (68 percent) agreed that their disposable household income is more than enough to live a comfortable life, compared to 41 percent globally.
“The people are very friendly, and the cost of living is very low,” InterNations reported, quoting an American expat as saying.
As many as 65 percent of the expats surveyed in Vietnam were satisfied with their financial situation in the country, higher than the global figure of 54 percent.
Apart from Vietnam, five other Asian countries in the top 10 include Indonesia (3rd), the Philippines (5th), India (6th), Thailand (8th), and China (10th).
