Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training has coordinated with competent agencies to verify an online offer to sell 30 million user records on a forum where data samples of some teachers and students were posted.

News of the sale offer emerged on an online forum on July 8, with the seller revealing that 30 million user records, along with data samples, had been collected from an education website.

The education ministry and related units immediately verified the claim.

The verification results showed that the data samples shared by the seller are different from what is in the education ministry’s database.

The ministry has continued coordinating with agencies under the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Ministry of Public Security in further reviewing the security of its database system.

It also required businesses and organizations that are providing information technology services for the education sector to identify and fix their own security holes to ensure the safety of service systems, as well as report any information insecurity suspicions to competent authorities.
