This year’s Earth Hour, themed ‘Connect to Earth,’ took place from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on March 24 across over 7,000 cities in 200 nations and territories.

It is also the 10th anniversary of Vietnam joining the international campaign.

In Ho Chi Minh City, about 2,000 volunteers gathered at the Youth Culture House in District 1 to mark the event.

Local pop star Isaac, ambassador of the 2018 Earth Hour in Vietnam, along with several other singers, also partook in the activity and delivered many exiting performances.

Meanwhile, in Hanoi, the Earth Hour was celebrated at the Cach Mang Thang Tam Square, which was joined by many pop singers, celebrity hosts, and beauties, including H’Hen Nie, Miss Universe Vietnam 2017.

The Earth Hour campaign, held annually by the World Wide Fund for Nature, started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007.

The campaign is about one simple yet environmentally-significant action: switching off the lights for one hour on the last Saturday of March every year.

The annual campaign in Vietnam is directed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and organized by its Department of Energy Saving and Sustainable Development, in coordination with state-owned power supplier Vietnam Electricity (EVN).
