-- On January 28, Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang led a delegation to visit people in the border area of the southern province of An Giang. During the trip, the delegation paid attention to local socio-economic development, national defense and security work, agriculture, and the lives of residents.

-- Vietnam’s Minister of Health Nguyen Kim Tien and Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan attended a ceremony to kick off a program to produce vaccines for human diseases at a cost of VND100 billion (US$4.66 million) on Wednesday.  

-- Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, confirmed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Wednesday evening that a comprehensive technical review will be carried out on the UH-1 chopper which crashed in Pham Van Hai Commune of Ho Chi Minh City’s Binh Chanh District yesterday morning. The accident killed four soldiers on board.

-- Two Bamboo café & fast food booths, owned by Tre Viet JSC, at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi have recently been shut down and fined VND8 million ($373) after they were found selling a customer a bowl of vegetarian instant noodles at an exorbitant price of VND100,000 ($4.66) on December 31, 2014.

-- The Central Highlands city of Da Lat will provide more than 600,000 tonnes of vegetables during the 15 days before and after Tet (Lunar New Year), according to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong Province.

-- Vietnam’s GDP will increase by around six percent this year and the country’s inflation will be 3.4 percent, economists from Standard Chartered Bank’s Asia macroeconomic research team predicted on Wednesday during a conference in Ho Chi Minh City.

-- Forty students from several countries, including 12 from Vietnam, will have the chance to participate in an internship course named “International Internship Program Year” in Thailand from June 15 to July 14 run by Thai SCG Group. All expenses for the trip will be fully sponsored by the group.

-- A gala to present the Cu Neo Vang, an annual award given by Tuoi Tre Cuoi, which is a satirical publication of Tuoi Tre, will be held at 8:00 pm on Saturday at Lan Anh Stage on Cach Mang Thang 8 Street in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City. About 1,500 free tickets are available at the newspaper’s headquarters in the city.

- “Chuyen di cuoi cung cua chi Phung” (The Last Journey of Madam Phung), a Vietnamese documentary about a homosexual man who is now dead, will be screened at 8:00 pm every day from January 31 to February 8 in the central city of Da Nang. The movie has been well-received by Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City audiences.
