-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Tuesday received Romanian Secretary of State Monica Gheorghita in Hanoi, asking for close coordination to realize the outcomes of his recent visit to the European nation.

-- Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong on Tuesday chaired a meeting of key leaders in Hanoi, making his first media appearance since taking some time off work due to health issues after a working trip in April.

-- Ho Chi Minh City police on Tuesday launched legal proceedings against and arrested Te Tri Dung, former general director of Tan Thuan Holdings Co. Ltd. (IPC), for embezzlement and violating regulations on the management and use of state assets.

-- Bui Quang Huy, general director of Nhat Cuong, a major mobile phone dealer in Hanoi that came under police inspection last week, was on Tuesday arrested and placed under criminal investigation on charges of trafficking and violating accounting regulations.

-- The African swine fever epidemic in Vietnam must be considered a pandemic if more outbreaks are reported in the country’s southern region while existing outbreaks in the north remains uncontained, Director of Vietnam’s Husbandry Department Nguyen Xuan Duong said on Tuesday.

-- Nguyen Ba Canh, son of late Da Nang leader Nguyen Ba Thanh and a high-ranking member of the central city’s Party Committee, has been removed from all positions in the Communist Party of Vietnam for violating marital laws.

-- Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports in April reached US$462 million, bringing their total export turnover in the first four months of 2019 to $1.4 billion, a year-on-year rise of 7.2 percent, according to the Department of Agro Processing and Market Development.

-- Facing water scarcity, farmers in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang have grown corn on nearly 2,000 hectares of rice fields, mostly located in drought-prone and saltwater-affected areas, for the 2018-19 winter-spring crop.

-- Bitel, a Peruvian brand of Vietnam’s military-run telecoms giant Viettel, has won a $27 million contract to provide information and technology infrastructure for 1,837 schools in 25 cities and provinces in Peru.
