The Ministry of Health logged 69,128 additional COVID-19 cases in Vietnam on Thursday, together with 19,062 hospital discharges and 111 virus-associated deaths.

The newest cases, including nine imported and 69,119 domestic transmissions, were detected in 62 provinces and cities, the health ministry said, noting that 48,179 were infected in the community.

Hanoi reported 8,864 of the latest local cases, Bac Giang Province 4,171, Hai Duong Province 2,948, Son La Province 2,860, Phu Tho Province 2,596, Nam Dinh Province 2,592, Ho Chi Minh City 2,466, Hoa Binh Province 2,391, Bac Ninh Province 2,375, Vinh Phuc Province 2,117, Hung Yen Province 1,995, Hai Phong City 1,890, Ninh Binh Province 1,799, Yen Bai Province 1,666, Lao Cai Province 1,655, Nghe An Province 1,629, Ha Giang Province 1,560, Dak Lak Province 1,514, Thai Nguyen Province 1,497, Lang Son Province 1,480, Thai Binh Province 1,456, Khanh Hoa Province 1,229, Quang Nam Province 1,199, Tuyen Quang Province 1,118, Binh Dinh Province 1,118, Da Nang 981, Lam Dong Province 732, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 627, Binh Duong Province 577, and Can Tho City 51.

Vietnam had documented 82,109 locally-transmitted infections on Wednesday.

The country has found 3,034,211 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. More than 2.33 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Ho Chi Minh City has been hardest hit with 526,059 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 295,221, Hanoi with 227,166, Dong Nai Province with 100,814, Tay Ninh Province with 89,549, Bac Ninh Province 67,868, Ca Mau Province 59,754, Hai Phong City 59,174, Binh Phuoc Province 52,988, Da Nang with 52,590, Dong Thap Province with 47,931, Vinh Long Province 45,246, Can Tho City with 44,835, Long An Province with 42,097, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 36,071, An Giang Province with 35,810, Tien Giang Province with 35,463, and Binh Thuan Province with 31,307.

Vietnam recorded only 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

Hospitals discharged 19,062 patients on Thursday, taking the national count to 2,339,784.

The toll has increased to 39,884, with 111 pathogen-linked fatalities added today. 

Vietnam has confirmed 3,041,506 patients in total, including 205 imported and community-based Omicron infections, since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Health workers have administered above 192.6 million vaccine doses, including 629,342 shots on Wednesday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Upwards of 175.9 million doses have been given to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 70,843,861 first shots, 67,172,939 second doses, 13,598,820 additional primary jabs, and 22,868,369 boosters.    

A total of 16,752,046 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,618,276 first doses and 8,133,770 second jabs.
