Vietnam has been included in the list of 55 countries and territories whose citizens are eligible for an e-visa to travel and work in Russia starting next month.

According to RIA news agency, the Consular Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday announced that the country will officially issue electronic visas to citizens of 52 Russia-friendly countries and territories, along with Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar from 10:00 am on August 1 (Russia time).

During a recent government meeting, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his endorsement for the relaunch of the e-visa system starting from August.

Furthermore, according to Izvestia newspaper, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko mentioned that China and India are likely to be the first two countries to reactivate the e-visa system for entry into Russia.

The Russian e-visa program was introduced in July 2020, allowing citizens of eligible countries to obtain a visa for their trip to Russia completely online.

It enables foreign visitors to enter Russia for both tourism and business reasons, with a validity period of 60 days.

The new visa policy, however, was suspended in January 2021 shortly after its release date in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
