Images of a couple's wedding in Can Tho City, southern Vietnam, have gone viral on social media. The couple delighted guests by recreating their parents’ wedding from the past.

The groom, Ngo Van Thuan, 28, and his bride, Dang Thi Ngoc Ha, 23, donned outfits in the style of the 1990s on their big day. Ha wore makeup in the old school.

Their wedding also featured a motorcycle that was popular in southern Vietnam in the 1990s.

Thuan told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that he wanted his wedding to be special, so he spent efforts looking for ideas.

He suddenly thought of the wedding of his wife's parents. At the time, Ha's mother wore a long veil, a red ao dai (Vietnam's traditional long gown) with yellow patterns, a lace cape, and golden necklaces.

Meanwhile, her father donned a shiny, silver-gray suit.

The wedding gate was made from coconut leaves and available fruits and vegetables.

Thuan got his wife’s agreement on the themed wedding.

However, the couple did not notify their family members and neighbors of their decision to surprise them.

Their friends supported and enthusiastically responded to their idea.

The couple found a wedding dress store that had dresses from the 2000s and chose one similar to their mother’s outfit.

Guests at their wedding were excited about and praised their idea, the groom said.

He added that his wedding was one of the first in his hometown to use coconut leaf-based wedding gates in modern times.

“Through the wedding, I wanted to recreate the atmosphere of weddings from the past. Whenever I look at old photos, I always feel nostalgic,” he said.

Thuan advised other couples who wish to recreate traditional weddings to prepare with their friends and start looking for clothes early.

The bride shared that she and her husband married after eight years together, facing no obstacles in their relationship due to the strong support from both families.

She hopes their wedding concept will inspire others to come up with unique ideas for their own weddings.
