Doctors and staff of Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 6, part of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), recently visited Bentiu Hospital in Bentiu City, Unity State, located in the East African nation, where they offered gifts to patients and the health facility.
The initiative was organized by Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 6 to mark the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctor’s Day (February 27).
The gifts for Bentiu Hospital and its patients consisted of medical essentials such as vitamins, face masks, gloves, hand sanitizers, and PPE suits.
These donations, though modest, were practical and meaningful, providing both medical support and emotional encouragement to local patients and healthcare workers.
Special gifts were also prepared for pediatric patients, including notebooks, pens, and coloring sets, bringing them joy during their treatment.
The donations were made possible through contributions from the hospital’s medics and staff.
Bentiu Hospital staff expressed deep gratitude, emphasizing that the aid provided more than material relief, as it strengthened the morale of both patients and medical workers in the conflict-ridden region.
Previously, the Vietnamese field hospital had donated protective medical gear to help contain a cholera outbreak, as part of their broader efforts to support local healthcare workers in infection prevention.
These efforts aimed to reduce the spread of disease and raise awareness among local healthcare workers about infection prevention.
Such donations reaffirm the humanitarian spirit and responsibility of Vietnam’s ‘blue beret’ peacekeepers, highlighting the compassionate role of Vietnamese military doctors in international peacekeeping missions.
Bentiu, one of the most volatile regions in South Sudan, relies heavily on UN humanitarian assistance, according to VTC News.
Since joining UN peacekeeping activities in 2014, Vietnam has sent nearly 1,100 professional officers and soldiers to join missions as individuals and units, and all of them have fulfilled their assigned duties and responsibilities.
Vietnamese peacekeepers have served in UNMISS, the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei, and the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic, along with postings at the UN headquarters in the U.S. and the European Union Training Mission in the Central African Republic.
