Vietnam’s Le Quang Liem took the fourth victory at the Oslo Esports Cup after crushing world No. 8 Anish Giri 2.5-0.5 in the sixth round on Thursday morning.

World No. 32 Liem surprised Giri, who is No. 8 in the world rankings, and won the first game after 57 moves.

The second game was decided even more quickly, just after 37 moves, in the Vietnamese’s favor thanks to the Dutch’s impatience.

Leading 2-0, Liem took the initiative to draw against his opponent in the third game to get a 2.5-0.5 overall triumph over Giri.

The victory was Liem’s fourth at the Oslo Esports Cup, promoting him to the third place in the rankings with 11 points, only one point behind the two leading players -- Magnus Carlsen and Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa.

In the next match, Liem is set play against world No. 2 Dutch player Jorden Van Foreest.
