Football manager José Mourinho marked his debut as coach in the Turkish Super Lig with a yellow card during Fenerbahçe’s opening match against Adana Demirspor on Saturday.
He was appointed as the club’s new manager in early June, Reuters reported.
The game started on a fiery note with the 61-year-old coach getting involved in multiple face-offs with the match officials, reported Goal, which is dedicated to the coverage of international association football.
In the 20th minute, after a decision went against his team, the Portuguese confronted the fourth official, which eventually forced referee Atilla Karaoglan to book the Fenerbahce boss.
Specifically, Mourinho held up one finger and then four, appearing to compare the number of decisions which had gone the way of each team. Referee Karaoglan was not having it, though, and came over to show the 'Special One' a yellow card.
Mourinho's frustrations were echoed by his players as center-back Jayden Oosterwolde got himself booked seven minutes later.
Despite the early disciplinary setbacks, Fenerbahçe found a breakthrough in the 34th minute when former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko scored, capitalizing on a well-placed assist from Allan Saint Maximin, according to Briefly News.
As a result, Fenerbahçe secured a 1-0 victory.
Mourinho was pleased with their performance against Demirspor, although he expressed concerns over his squad's fitness after a short pre-season.
Mourinho took charge of the Turkish giants this summer but has had to manage the club in three Champions League qualifying matches before getting into domestic action.
Fenerbahce beat Swiss side Lugano over two legs last month but earlier last week lost 2-1 to French outfit Lille, The Mirror reported.
