Vietnamese martial artists claimed their third gold medal at the ongoing World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Hong Kong on Tuesday, the fourth day of the event.
Chau Tuyet Van and Nguyen Thien Phung won the gold medal in the U50 mixed pair category, defeating their Danish rivals in a thrilling final on the fourth day of competition.
In their first routine, Van and Phung scored 9,040 points, followed by 8,980 points in the second routine, giving them an average score of 9,010 points.
The Danish pair scored an average of 8,970 points, securing second place.
As a result, Van and Phung claimed first place, while teams from Iran and Myanmar tied for third, each earning a bronze medal.

One day earlier, Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, and Lien Thi Tuyet Mai triumphed in the U50 female team category, defeating South Korea in a highly competitive finale.
Vietnam’s first gold medal came on Saturday, the first day of competition, when the team won the over-17 freestyle mixed category, marking the country’s first gold at the championship since 2016.
The Vietnamese athletes are having an exceptionally successful tournament with three gold medals.
The championship in Hong Kong has attracted 1,727 athletes from 77 countries and territories.
Vietnam sent 47 athletes to the tournament, which runs until Wednesday.
