More than 80 calligraphers nationwide are participating in the largest calligraphy exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City.
The calligraphy club at the Youth Culture House in downtown Ho Chi Minh City held the opening ceremony for the exhibition titled ‘Coi Nguon’ (Origin) on Wednesday.
Over 160 calligraphic works by calligraphers in 24 cities and provinces, including Ho Chi Minh City, An Giang, Kien Giang, Dong Thap, Ben Tre, Long An, Binh Duong and Dong Nai Provinces, are on display at the exhibition.
Calligraphy can be written on pieces of silk, wood, or canvas.
Calligraphy words are often about love of country, love of family, and ca dao, or Vietnamese folk poetry.
The event is aimed at marking the 48th anniversary of the house’s establishment.
Nguyen Hong Phuc, director of the Youth Culture House, said that the exhibition has opened up a series of activities to celebrate 48 years of establishing the house.
The exhibition is the largest ever of its kind in the city, Phuc underlined.
“Through their works, calligraphers expect to bring spiritual values to residents,” he said.

Pham Van Nguyen, head of the calligraphy club, said that the club has over 120 members.
The club spent a year preparing for the exhibition.
Calligrapher Nguyen Thanh Son said that he has persisted in Vietnamese calligraphy for more than 23 years thanks to his passion.
“I am deeply touched that many young people pursue Vietnamese calligraphy. They have been promoting the art of writing and popularizing it among locals and foreigners,” he shared.
Calligraphy master Tuyet Nhung also expressed her pleasure to see many young people cherish calligraphy.
Calligraphy has contributed to educational development. People will behave better thanks to the messages conveyed through pieces of calligraphy.
The exhibition, which is set to wrap up on Sunday, will feature numerous interesting activities such as a calligraphy-gifting program and discussions with calligraphers.
The Youth Culture House will roll out some 70 programs to mark the 48-year anniversary of its establishment, including the calligraphy festival, street music shows, workshops, and sports competitions.
