Asiana Airlines, one of South Korea's two major carriers, has stopped offering services between Seoul-based Incheon International Airport and Cam Ranh International Airport in Vietnam’s coastal province of Khanh Hoa, its representative office in Ho Chi Minh City confirmed Tuesday. The direct air route had been running under a pilot period, which has ended as scheduled, the representative said. Asiana Airlines has yet to decide if it will resume the Incheon - Cam Ranh service in the future. The first Asiana Airlines flight arrived in Cam Ranh on the evening of July 12, with 131 Korean passengers aboard. “Opening a direct flight route from Incheon to Cam Ranh was seen as a significant step forward in bringing foreign tourists in general, and South Korean tourists in particular, to visit, live and work in Vietnam,” said Truong Dang Tuyen, director of the provincial Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism, in the ceremony held to receive the first flight from Incheon to the province. The Korean airliner has since offered two flights a week, on Tuesdays and Sundays, with A321 planes, each carrying about 140-150 passengers. As of the end of August, Asiana Airlines had offered a total of 15 flights, carrying 1,778 passengers, to the central part of Vietnam.
