The newly built Da Nang Museum, with an investment of VND504 billion (US$19.7 million), opened its doors to the public on Friday, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Da Nang City’s liberation on March 29, 1975.

Located at 42-44 Bach Dang Street in Hai Chau District, the museum occupies a 125-year-old building that was previously the Da Nang City Hall, a structure built during the French colonial period in 1898.

Designed by a French architect in the neoclassical style, construction on the building completed in 1900.

The building has undergone a comprehensive restoration and expansion, now spanning over 8,600 square meters with one basement, three above-ground floors, and newly landscaped grounds that connect to the surrounding area.

The museum holds particular cultural and historical significance, as the French building is considered a symbol of time for Da Nang.

Originally, it used to house the office of the Tourane Governors and used to serve as the headquarters for both the Quang Nam-Da Nang provincial People’s Committee and the Da Nang city People’s Committee and Council.

Huynh Dinh Quoc Thien, director of Da Nang Museum, stated that the museum is currently showcasing nearly 3,000 artifacts and documents selected from a total of 27,000 items.

The exhibit combines traditional display techniques with modern projection technology.

Visitors will experience interactive elements, including 3D mapping films, 3D films, documentary videos, and slide shows, which bring the past to life in an immersive way.

The museum also features new technology, such as the Luna robot model, a virtual assistant that guides visitors through the space and enhances their experience.

“With the new exhibition technologies and nine major themes on display across the seamlessly integrated old and new sections of the museum, we hope this will symbolize the connection between the past and the present,” said Thien.

“We also expect it to become a landmark and a unique architectural feature, rich in historical and cultural values along the Han River.”
