Ford Vietnam and Mercedes-Benz Vietnam are recalling more than 3,000 vehicles with possible defective gear systems and airbags in the Southeast Asian country.

Ford is recalling 2,566 Ford Ranger pickup trucks produced between June 5, 2015 and February 2, 2016, according to a plan approved by Vietnam Register, an agency on vehicle quality and safety control.

The vehicles, amongst the best-selling pickup trucks of the U.S. automaker in the country, are likely to face transmission failure or difficulties in changing gears as the shifter cable clip may be loosely connected to a metal part of the manual gear stick.

The pickups, imported into Vietnam from Thailand, use the 2.2L engine and manual transmission.

Starting Friday, the recall is expected to end on July 27, 2020.

Mercedes-Benz on July 16 also started a recall campaign for 765 luxury cars whose airbags may be inflated when there is not any emergency because a related electric component malfunction.

The vehicles belong to the GLC 250 4MATIC and GLC 300 4MATIC models manufactured at the Germany-headquartered firm’s factory in Vietnam from June to September 2017.

This is the tenth time this year Vietnam Register has approved a recall related to Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Over 1,300 Mercedes-Benz GLC cars were purchased in the Southeast Asian country during the first half of 2018, enabling this model to cross the 5,000-unit mark only two years after it was rolled out, according to Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper.
