Ho Chi Minh City has officially rolled out the self-service model at 11 gas stations, starting from Tuesday.
The self-service, where customers pump their own gas and pay money at a machine, is applicable to both car drivers and motorcyclists at the gas stations under the management of the Ho Chi Minh City branch of Petrolimex, Vietnam’s largest fuel wholesaler.
Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper’s reporters came to report the implementation of the service at Petrolimex gas station No. 31 on Nguyen Van Troi Street in Phu Nhuan District, where automated payment machines have been installed in connection with four fuel dispensers.
A representative at the station said that many customers had learned to use the automatic payment service after 15 days of pilot implementation.

Particularly, customers are allowed to choose how many liters of gasoline they want to fill up their vehicle, and pay with bank cards by flicking on the touch screens installed right at the pumps and manually pump gasoline into the vehicle.
Pham Ngoc Duy, a resident in Tan Phu District, told Tuoi Tre that the self-service pump was still unfamiliar to him in his first experience, compared to having attendants fill up gas and collect money directly.
But like many other customers, Duy said he will continue to get used to the self-service next time.

As the model of self-service gas stations has long been the norm in many countries around the world that brings customers convenience, promptitude and transparency, the Ho Chi Minh City branch of Petrolimex said that the company will continue to expand the scope of this retail automation at its petroleum stores.
In addition, it will also add more payment methods such as Visa and Master cards, QR (quick response) codes, and mobile wallets, instead of only ATM cards and Petrolimex’s gas cards like the present.
