Vietnam's first-ever center selling domestically-produced high-class Japanese goods was inaugurated in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City on Friday.

Costing Vi Bien-Akuruhi Trading and Service Company Limited US$20 million to build, Akuruhi Tower is a 14-storey building that has a total floor space of 10,000 square meters.

The tower includes a restaurant complex, a supermarket, a clothing showroom, and an entertainment area for children.

Vi Bien-Akuruhi claimed that up to 90 percent of the goods on sale at the center were produced in Japan.

Phan Thanh Tan, chairman of the Council of Members of Vi Bien-Akuruhi, said the center is expected to offer the most high-grade experiences to customers, from entertainment and catering services to shopping activities.

He said the vegetables, fruit, and seafood on the shelves were purchased from wholesale markets in Japan and transported to Vietnam by air to ensure their quality.

Akuruhi Tower’s opening marks the first center of its kind in Vietnam that sells domestically-produced high-class Japanese goods.

Vi Bien-Akuruhi was developed from a retail store that was founded in Ho Chi Minh City in 1998 and focused on seafood trade.

The company has since grown to include four supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, and the Cambodian capital city of Phnom Penh.
