Customers crowded mobile phone shops on Thursday night to wait for iPhone 14 sales at midnight in Ho Chi Minh City, a Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper journalist reported from the scenes.

According to Apple Inc.’s regulations, the iPhone 14s have officially been available for sale in Vietnam from 0:00 on Friday.

Before the ‘zero hour,’ many Apple authorized resellers (AAR) in Ho Chi Minh City became abuzz with several interesting launching events.

Retailer ShopDunk welcomed early birds with virtual reality games, giveaways of the iPhone 14 accessories, additional services, and a Q&A session at the Nguyen Du sports hall in District 1.

The Minh Tuan Mobile store chain set up a music stage and buffet tables for iPhone fans at 1 Le Duan Street in the same district.

A large crowd of people queued in front of the TopZone store under mobile retailer The Gioi Di Dong on Khanh Hoi Street in District 4 from 9:00 pm on Thursday to get their hands on the new iPhones.

“The appeal of the iPhone 14 series has been ongoing before and after their official launch in Vietnam,” said Tran Van Hoang, sales manager of The Gioi Di Dong. 

“The products are poised to attract more and more customers, especially during the coming year-end shopping season.”

Other retailers such as FPT Shop, 24hStore, and Di Dong Viet also organized music shows and talks featuring influencers on the same night to entertain customers who came to pick up their pre-ordered iPhone 14s.

Notably, reseller Di Dong Viet granted a VND100-million (US$4,140) support extracted from the sales of the iPhone 14 series to poverty-stricken child patients.

Despite the high prices of the new iPhones, the fans were seen happily processing payments for the pre-ordered devices when the sales officially opened.

According to data provided by the AARs, more than tens of thousands of customers successfully received the iPhone 14s during the first delivery at dawn on Friday. 

Particularly, FPT Shop and F.Studio, two subsidiaries of Vietnamese telecoms firm FPT Corp, successfully delivered 5,100 pre-ordered iPhone 14s to customers nationwide. 

The Gioi Di Dong and ShopDunk delivered about 5,000 and more than 1,400 devices, respectively.

Nguyen The Kha, head of mobile telecommunications at FPT Shop and F.Studio, predicted that the iPhone 14s sales will continue to soar high later this year, given the sooner launch compared to last year, more competitive prices, better warranty policy, and a higher volume of distributed devices.
