Khanh Hoa Province in south-central Vietnam plans to send its officials and staff to the U.S. to promote trade, investment, tourism cooperation as well as to establish twinning partnerships with two U.S. cities.

The provincial Department of Planning and Investment has suggested that necessary procedures be processed for the delegation to make a five-day business trip to the U.S. late next month.

The 16-member delegation will be headed by Nguyen Hai Ninh, secretary of the provincial Party Committee, according to a proposal on the trip.

The delegation is set to establish partnerships between Khanh Hoa and San Diego in California and Boston in Massachusetts; hold a conference to promote the coastal Vietnamese province’s investment, tourism, and trade in San Diego; and host a meeting with major investors in Boston.

During the events, Khanh Hoa aims to showcase its strengths, leveraging its strategic location and well-developed infrastructure, which includes logistics facilities, seaports, and an international airport.

The province also seeks to explore new potential markets for exporting its key products to the U.S..

The delegation will call on certain U.S. investment funds to collaborate with Vietnam’s major private conglomerate Vingroup to develop a global intelligence center in the province’s Cam Lam District, as well as to partner with Vietnam’s Sun Group to study the possibility of investing in the northern part of Khanh Hoa’s Van Phong Economic Zone.

As part of the planned business trip, the delegation would seek to forge ties between U.S. firms in the fields of AI, semiconductors, information technology, and the Khanh Hoa-based Telecommunications University and Vietnamese tech giant FPT, which is exploring the possibility of investing in Khanh Hoa’s Nha Trang City.

The Vietnamese officials will engage in discussions with the University of California, San Diego to explore a partnership wherein the U.S. university collaborates with VinUniversity, a private institution operated by Vingroup, to collectively support Khanh Hoa in developing a smart, environmentally friendly city.

They will join several working sessions with other American universities like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University to explore cooperation opportunities to help Khanh Hoa-based healthcare and educational institutions enhance their capacity.

The Vietnamese officials are expected to meet with leaders of the Boston Global Forum, which was founded to bring together thought leaders across the globe onto an open forum to address the issues that affect the world at large; discuss development issues in Khanh Hoa with scientists and experts; and learn about success stories of the Hollywood movie capital as well as nature conservation efforts in San Diego.
