Nguyen Nhat Anh, a celebrated kids’ writer, announced that the Korean translation of his bestselling book “Cho toi xin mot ve di tuoi tho” (Give me one ticket back to childhood) is on its way back to Vietnam.
The Dasan Books Publisher in Seoul first published the translation in Korea in June.
Jeong Hae Yeong did the translation based on the English version, which the Korean publisher purchased from its American counterpart, Hannacroix Creek Books, in 2011 with Anh’s consent.
Anh said he will buy some 50 to 100 Korean copies and put them up for sale at his Kinh Van Hoa bookstore.
His book was earlier translated into Thai by Dr. Montira Rato and published in 2010.
The original book has sold some 200,000 copies in Vietnam and has been on the local bestseller list since debuting in 2008.
In late 2010, “Cho Toi Xin Mot Ve Di Tuoi Tho” earned its author the Southeast Asian (SEA) Writer Award, which has been given away since 1979 by the Thai Royal Family to writers from each member state of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The novel, which blends fond childhood memories with real adulthood ones, has won much critical acclaim from local writers and critics. It also pocketed an award from the Vietnamese Writers’ Association in 2009.
Nguyen Nhat Anh is among the country’s most successful and prolific children’s writer, with his books appealing to kids, teenagers and adults. He is also a teacher, poet and journalist. Some of his most popular novels, such as the 54-volume- “Kinh Van Hoa” (Kaleidoscope), have been adapted into hit TV dramas.
