The shrine to patriotic scholar Tang Bat Ho in central Binh Dinh province’s Hoai An commune was named the national historical relic on Sept 17.

The shrine was built in 2001 and was expanded and renovated starting in 2012.

The renovation including repair to the main hall, garden, fence and complementary items, which cost a total of almost VND5 billion (US$235,900), has recently been completed.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to bestow the recognition on the shrine late last month.

Tang Bat Ho (1858 - 1906), whose real name is Tang Doan Van, is a patriotic scholar who joined the resistance war against the French troops in the late 19th century and early 20th century.
