Wondering what to do or where to go this Christmas and New Year’s Eve in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City? Here are a few hints.

A slew of activities to celebrate Christmas and usher in the New Year are taking place in the foreigner-packed Phu My Hung area of Ho Chi Minh City.

The main event is running at the Ban Nguyet (Crescent) Lake in the District 7 neighborhood from Monday to January 4.

It is expected to welcome about 20,000 visitors during that time.

The two highlights are streets decorated with Christmas glitter and a countdown party to the New Year.

The countdown party will be held on Wednesday next week and includes a star-studded performance with the country’s leading DJs and singers.

A countdown ritual, to start at 11:59 pm on New Year’s Eve, will feature a striking light show over the Crescent Lake.

Participants will also be showered with gifts from the event’s sponsors.

In a similar vein, “Christmas Festival 2014” is set to take place at Ho Tay Park in Hanoi next Tuesday and Wednesday – Christmas Eve.

The festival will also boast a gorgeous snow path and a clutch of captivating street festivities.

Kids will be pampered with presents by around 100 people disguised as Santa Claus and have the chances to take part in boisterous dances with hundreds of Santa ladies and their grandchildren.

Other features include wintry games and a contest for photos which capture the most impressive Christmas moments.
