History, a U.S. television network known for historical documentaries and fiction series, has become available to viewers in Vietnam via a streaming service.

The channel’s Vietnam launch was held on Monday in Ho Chi Minh City by its official distributor MobiTV, an online TV streaming service available for web and smartphone users.

The ceremony was attended by a History representative, who introduced key features of the channel to attending guests.

Long Vu, chief editor in charge of cable networks of Vietnam Television (VTV), stressed the importance of translating and editing works when dealing with historical issues.

VTV is responsible for reviewing the content of the channel’s broadcasts in Vietnam.

“We have a huge team of translators and editors who will do their best to avoid any mistakes [with the broadcasts],” Vu said. “Contents not suitable for Vietnamese viewers will not be aired.”

Additionally, the History representative expressed his wish for cooperation with Vietnamese partners in producing programs tailored toward the local audience, such as the ‘Photo Face-Off’ photography reality show that had received positive feedback after four seasons.

A historical reality show where participants are guided through activities to explore the history of their own country will also be among programs to be offered on the channel, the representative said.

Launched in the U.S. in 1995, History is focused on documentary programs, historical fiction series, as well as various reality television series such as Pawn Stars, Ax Men, and other non-history related content.

Localized versions of History are available in over 150 countries and territories across the globe.

In Vietnam, the channel will be first aired on MobiTV’s streaming service, before moving to other cable networks in the near future.
