India’s 67th Independence Day celebrated in HCMC

The Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday celebrated the 67th Independence Day of India at its HCMC headquarter.

The event, kicked off by Consul General, Dr Deepak Mittal, commenced with a national flag hoisting, and was followed by the reading of ‘Address to the nation by President of India'. 

Dr Deepak Mittal assumed charge as Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City on August 2, 2013.

The Independence Day ceremony was attended by about 200 persons including Indian citizens and persons of Indian origin. National patriotic songs were sung by the ladies from the Indian community in the city.

Deepak Mittal is a career diplomat who joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1998.

He has served in various capacities in the Indian Missions in Cairo, Egypt (2000-2002), Tel Aviv, Israel (2005-2008) and Dhaka, Bangladesh (2008-2011).

In the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi he has served in Divisions dealing with India’s relations with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Myanmar.

He has a degree in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).
