Russian voters in Vietnam flocked to polling sites in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang City, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province on Sunday to cast their ballots in the 2024 Russian presidential election.
Russia held a presidential election from March 15 to 17. Overseas voting took place at 281 polling stations in 144 countries, including Vietnam.
On Sunday, up to 2,000 Russian nationals in Vietnam voted at four places, including the Russian Embassy in Hanoi, the Consulates General of Russia in Da Nang, central Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City, and the headquarters of Vietnam-Russia oil and gas joint venture Vietsovpetro in Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, located in the southern region.

Nearly 80 Russian voters were present at the Hanoi-based polling station at 10:00 am to cast their ballots.
Anna, a secretary at a Russian school under the Russian Embassy in Hanoi, said that she voted for incumbent President and presidential candidate Vladimir Putin as she trusts him.
In Ho Chi Minh City, some Russian voters arrived at the Consulate General at 8:00 am to cast a ballot.
According to the observation of a Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporter, some 30 Russian citizens and Vietnamese holding a Russian passport exercised the right to vote in the Russian presidential election on Sunday morning.
Elena, 38, who came to the Ho Chi Minh City-based polling place with her husband and two-year-old son at 9:00 am, said that she was excited about the election.
She assessed how well the election ran in the southern metropolis.
Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Stepanovich Bezdetko said that Russia received much support from Vietnamese agencies and units to hold such an important election in Vietnam.
“The cooperation between the [Russian] Embassy and Hanoi authorities on the organization of the election is effective. We are grateful to the Vietnamese side for creating favorable conditions for the Russian presidential election,” Bezdetko said.

Speaking of the Russia - Vietnam partnership, he highlighted some achievements in the oil, hi-tech, transport, and military technology aspects.
Bezdetko affirmed that the Vietnam - Russia comprehensive strategic partnership does not depend on the election results.
This was the first time a remote online voting system had been available in a Russian presidential election.
As many as 4.76 million Russian voters registered to cast a ballot online.
There are 112.3 million people with the right to vote in the election. Another 1.9 million people abroad have the right to vote, including 12,000 in Baikonur, a cosmodrome which Russia rents in Kazakhstan, Reuters reported.
Putin is running against Nikolai Kharitonov, Leonid Slutsky, leader of the nationalist Liberal Democratic Party, and Vladislav Davankov of the New People party.
The results of the election will be revealed after 9:00 pm on Sunday (Moscow time) after voting in Kaliningrad wraps up.
