Vietnam have grasped the ticket for the final match of the 27th Southeast Asian Games women’s football event after pounding Malaysia 4-0 in their semifinal round on Wednesday.
The team took control of the match right from the beginning, enabling midfielder Minh Nguyet to score the first goal from close range after getting a pass from a corner kick on the left wing in the 11st minute.
After the first goal, Vietnamese female footballers continued to mount more pressure on their Malaysian rivals, creating more opportunities but failing in seizing them.
Their efforts only paid off in the second half with the goal of midfielder Tuyet Dung in the 55th minutes.
After the two goals, the Malaysian seemed to give up, letting Minh Nguyet and Huynh Nhu scoring two more goals in the 64th and 77th minute, respectively.
Winning the game, the Vietnamese team will meet with the one which emerges triumphant in the match between Thailand and Laos tonight.
The team on Sunday qualified for the semi-final match after edging past hosts Myanmar 1-0 in their last group stage match at Mandalarthiri Stadium in Mandalay City where both wanted to avoid heavyweights Thailand – who are set to top Group B after their encounter with Laos on Monday – in the semis.
The victory of the Vietnamese female team came one day after their male counterparts lost to the Malaysian with two goals scored in the match for the semi-final round of 27th Southeast Asian Games men’s football event at Zeyar Thiri Stadium.
They could not scored any goals into the net of the current champion, although having controlled the game in the first half, and almost all the time in the second one. Their competitors turned the tide by the end of the game when only 14 minute left.
