A prematurely born, underweight baby is now in stable condition after being ejected from his mother’s womb into a toilet tub in central Vietnam more than three weeks ago.
Phan Van Tu, director of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital in the eponymous province, said Saturday that Hoang Van Be, who was born on February 5, 2015, is recovering and in intensive care at the healthcare facility.
Be is the second son of Ho Thi Thuy, 21, who resides in the province’s Dien Chau District.
According to Thuy’s family, she had an upset stomach and sat on a toilet tub to relieve herself on February 5, when she was seven months pregnant with Be.
Without warning, her baby fell out from her womb into the tub.
Hearing her screams, Thuy’s husband quickly came to their infant’s rescue.
After cleansing the little boy of waste matters, the family rushed him to a local clinic before having him transferred to the Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital for medical attention.
Upon admission, the neonate weighed merely 1.6 kilograms compared to newborns’ average weight of around three kilograms.
His breathing and cardiac activity also ceased while his body turned blue.
Following emergency treatment and over three weeks of intensive care, the little boy has made a remarkable recovery with the help of an incubator, a breathing apparatus, and high doses of antibiotics.
He can now slowly digest milk which is injected into his stomach.
