Military units under Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defense will begin moving south this week as part of the preparations for the 50th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam and Reunification Day on April 30.
The deployment will take place in five groups, with four traveling by train on Thursday and Friday.
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, chaired a meeting on Wednesday to assign tasks and coordinate the logistics for the upcoming celebration.
Military departments and units were instructed to collaborate closely to ensure the movement of troops and equipment proceeds smoothly.
The official also emphasized coordination with local authorities at train stations along the route to support the military forces.
Security and safety during the journey must be highlighted as priorities, both on board the trains and at the departure and arrival points.
He called for detailed plans in all aspects, including vehicle inspections and travel logistics, with particular attention to the well-being of troops during transit.
Arrangements have been made to provide adequate meals, sanitation, and food safety throughout the trip.
According to the plan, the first group of troops will depart from Hanoi Station, while the second group will leave Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam for Bien Hoa Station in Dong Nai Province, located in the southern region.
They will continue by road to their assigned training locations in preparation for the upcoming parade.
The military parade and public march marking the anniversary are scheduled for 8:00 am on April 30 in downtown Ho Chi Minh City.
More than 13,000 participants are expected to take part in the event.
The parade will include 35 contingents coordinated by the Ministries of National Defense and Public Security, while the march will be organized by Ho Chi Minh City.
The event will begin on Le Duan Boulevard in downtown Ho Chi Minh City.
