-- Vietnamese National Assembly chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung met the presidents of the Upper House and Lower House of Massachusetts, Stanley Rosenberg and Robert Delco respectively, during his visit to the U.S. on Friday, to promote cooperation between the U.S. state and a number of Vietnamese localities.   

-- Vietnam and the Philippines are expected to sign a strategic partnership when they attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum slated for November in Manila, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines Truong Trieu Duong told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Friday.

-- An eight-month baby died, while his mother was injured, after a water tank suddenly fell from the terrace of a next door four-story house and pieced through the tile roof of their house on Friday afternoon.

-- Police in the northern Thai Nguyen province are hunting for two men who stopped a local journalist, Nguyen Ngoc Quang, 44, when he was driving his wife to work and slashed him eight times early Friday.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Transport Department has asked the city People’s Committee to direct authorities of Nha Be District and Districts 2 and 8 to urgently remove residents and their assets from 44 locations that have been assessed to be very prone to serious landslides.

-- Ta Long Hy, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Taxi Association, has urged its company members to consider cutting fare rates as petrol price is now VND1,900 (US$0.08) per liter lower than that in May 2015, following many recent cuts.    

-- As of next month, high-skilled airline employees, including pilots must give their employers a four-month prior written notice if they want to unilaterally terminate their work contracts, according to a new regulation of the Ministry of Transport that will take effect on October 1.

-- A project to build a cable car system linking An Thoi Town and Hon Thom Isle on Phu Quoc Island, a district of the southern province of Kien Giang, kicked off on Friday by its Vietnamese developer, SunGroup, and is expected to be complete on April 30, 2017.

-- The 5th Vietnam International Book Fair and Exhibition 2015 will take place on Thong Nhat Park in Hanoi from September 10-14, drawing about 200 stalls from more than 100 local and foreign publishing houses, the Authority of Publication, Printing and Distribution, under the Ministry of Information and Communications, said on Friday.
