-- A lotus-shaped design has been chosen for the construction of Long Thanh International Airport in Long Thanh District, Dong Nai Province. It is estimated to cost US$15.03 billion to build the new airport to ease pressure on Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.

-- Authorities in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap have declared a state of emergency and urged residents along the Tien (Front) River in Thanh Binh District to relocate as the riverbank can collapse anytime.

-- Officials in the southern province of Dong Nai opened the An Hao Bridge to traffic on Sunday, making it easier to travel to Vung Tau, a popular resort city, from Ho Chi Minh City. The bridge, crossing the Dong Nai River, measures 475m long, 23m wide, and have six lanes.

-- Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City are still in limbo as to how to ease congestion, now scratching heads over the definition of a traffic jam.

-- The Da Nang International Fireworks Festival kicked off on Sunday, with a pyrotechnic display by eight teams from Vietnam, Australia, Austria, the UK, China, Japan, Switzerland, and Italy. Fireworks shows will continue to be organized on May 20, May 27, June 3, and June 24.

-- The Ministry of Education and Training has just unveiled a plan to spend US$80 million comprehensively reforming basic education, from elementary to high school.

-- Bangkok Glass was awarded $15,000 after defeating VTV Binh Dien Long An 3-1 at the international women’s volleyball tournament in Tay Ninh Province on Sunday. VTV Binh Dien Long An received $10,000 as the runner-up.

-- Laotian cyclist Ariya Phounsavath won the ‘Yellow Shirt,’ awarded to the best athlete, at a cycling championship organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Television Station. The prestigious tournament ended on Sunday after one month of competition from north to south.
