A police official in the southern Vietnamese province of Binh Duong has been found dead by hanging at a local hotel.

The provincial Department of Police confirmed on Saturday afternoon that Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Dong, an official at the agency, is dead.

Officers are now investigating the exact reason behind his death.

According to initial information, the body of Lt. Col. Dong, 45, was found hanged inside a hotel room in Chanh Nghia Ward, Thu Dau Mot City on the morning of the same day.

He had just finished his business trip in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho and returned to his home at around 2:00 am that day.

After leaving his luggage at the house, the police official rented a room at the hotel.

A hotel employee noticed something strange and decided to check his room at around 10:30 am before discovering the body.

The incident was immediately reported to competent authorities.

Officers have examined the scene and gathered statements from witnesses.

According to his relatives, Dong had been living with his wife and her family.

His friends added that he often complained about his personal life.
