Legal proceedings have been launched against a man in north-central Vietnam who reversed his car on a road and ran over a female senior who died later.
Doan Dinh Son, residing in Vinh, the capital city of Nghe An Province, has been indicted by local police and will be taken into custody for two months for his breaches of traffic regulations, an official from the city’s court told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Monday.
Son, 34, said that on April 30, he ran his vehicle against the traffic flow on Quang Trung Street in Vinh City in order to block the movement of a car driven by his wife, which was heading in the right direction.
With the vehicles facing each other, he argued with the wife before backing his car at high speed for 30 meters along the carriageway.
The vehicle ran over Nguyen Thi Luu, a 60-year-old local, while she was crossing the road on a bicycle after shopping.

Luu was taken by Son to the hospital and died subsequently.
Police also brought in the man’s wife for investigation.
The incident was recorded in a video that spread on social media later the same day, with viewers denouncing Son’s action and demanding strict punishment for him.
