A man was killed while his wife and child are in a critical condition after their automobile plunged off a cliff in the northern Vietnamese province of Dien Bien early Wednesday morning.
The accident occured at around 5:00 am along a section of National Highway No. 279 in Na Nhan Commune, Dien Bien District, according to Quang Van Son, chairman of the commune’s administration.
Preliminary information showed that Nguyen Trung Thanh, 39, was driving his wife and their child in a Toyota Vios along the road when he lost control of the vehicle.

The car then plunged 40 meters off a cliff and landed into a river below.
Thanh was killed on impact, while his wife and child, whose names and ages have yet to be announced, were seriously injured.

At the crash site, the bottom half of the automobile was underwater.
The vehicle was found heavily damaged with its windshield broken and airbag deployed.
Police officers believed that the driver was extremely exhausted after spending the night driving, resulting in the accident.
