-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison have reiterated their mutual commitment to a strong and ambitious bilateral relationship during their talks in Hanoi, as part of the latter’s first official visit to Vietnam from August 22 to 24, according to a Vietnam – Australia joint statement released Friday.

-- The Hanoi police department on Friday announced a 30-day suspension for Le Thi Hien, a 36-year-old traffic police officer from Dong Da District, for violating the police’s regulations with her causing disturbance at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City earlier this month.

-- A Chinese national has been caught stealing nearly 230,000 yen ($2,120) from a Japanese passenger as they were on board a Vietnam Airlines flying from the central city of Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City on August 20, the Southern Airports Authority said in a recent report.

-- All of the 19 people aboard a canoe were successfully rescued when the boat capsized in the waters off an oil and gas port of Vietsovpetro in the southern province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau on Friday.

-- Vietnam and Australia on Friday agreed to raise bilateral trade from nearly US$7.8 billion in 2018 to $10 billion next year, with the consensus reached during the talks in Hanoi between Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison, who is paying an official visit to Vietnam from August 22-24.

-- State President and Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong has signed a resolution that is hoped to facilitate Vietnam’s foreign investment attraction and expected to bring the Vietnamese business environment and competitiveness to among the top four countries in the ASEAN before 2021 and top three before 2030, the Vietnam News Agency reported on Friday.

-- Vietnam enjoyed a $1 billion trade surplus with ten countries in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) seven months after the trade deal came into effect, according to a report by the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

-- A special music and song program to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Music Day, a festival to honor Vietnamese music, will take place at the Hanoi Opera House on September 3, the organizers announced on Friday.
