A South Korean man seriously injured himself after jumping from the second floor of a laundromat in Da Nang to escape from a raging fire on Monday.
The flames started at White Clothes Laundry Express at 67 Nguyen Cong Sau Street in Son Tra District in the wee hours of Monday morning.
Nguyen Thanh Cong, 23, an employee at the laundromat, was the first to notice the fire and alarmed others before calling firefighters.
As many flammable materials were stored on the building’s first floor, the fire quickly spread to the entire house.
Baek Jin Kyoo, 50, a South Korean national who is a relative of the house owner, jumped to the ground from the second floor in panic.
As he hit obstacles on the way down, Baek was seriously injured and had to be rushed to the hospital.
Cong and another resident, 21-year-old Nguyen Thanh Duy, made their way to the third floor and waited for firefighters to arrive and save them.
He suffered minor burns while Duy was unharmed.
Six fire trucks were dispatched to the site to put out the fire.
Police officers are investigating the cause of the fire.
