A man in Hanoi has been detained for attempting to violate his own child’s schoolmate when she visited his home last month.

Police said on Sunday that they had arrested Le Dinh Thang, a 40-year-old man in Thanh Cong Ward in the Vietnamese capital’s Ba Dinh District, for an investigation into his attempt to rape N.H.L., his son’s 14-year-old schoolmate.

L. came to Thang’s house to play with his son at 8:00 am on January 15, according to police reports.

His son went to an after-school class at 8:45 am so L. continued to stay with Thang.

The man then tried to lure the little girl into having sex with him.

He took L. to a neighbor’s house, where nobody was present, to violate her but he failed in his attempt.

Thang told the girl to put on her clothes before he pretended to bring a bottle of alcohol to the front of the house to check if there was anybody around.

He returned to open the door for L. to go home after seeing the vicinity was clear.

L. arrived home on the afternoon of the same day and told her parents the attempted violation, as she was afraid to become pregnant.

Her parents then reported it to police in Thanh Cong District.

Thang admitted to his wrongdoing at the police station afterward.
