Police in Vietnam have arrested a man who attempted to rob a bank with a gun over 10 days ago.
The Ministry of Public Security, in coordination with police officers in the southern province of Binh Duong, has apprehended Tran Cong Duc, 27, a source close to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper confirmed on Saturday.
Duc, who hails from the southern province of Dong Nai, was arrested when he was hiding at a rented house in Ben Cat Town, Binh Duong.
Preliminary investigation showed that Duc bought a gun and some bullets online at VND15 million (US$650) in October.
On November 17, he borrowed a motorbike from his younger brother to travel to the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

On the following day, Duc left his brother’s motorbike at the hotel and rented another one to travel to Ben Cat Town in Binh Duong.
The man removed the license plate along the way.
After arriving at an SHB bank branch in Ben Cat, Duc, whose face was covered with a mask, took out his gun and threatened the employees.
A security guard quickly shouted for help, thus Duc ran away without being able to take any money.
Duc rode the motorcycle to an empty land plot about eight kilometers away to re-install the license plate, changed his outfit, and burned his old clothes.

Duc traveled back to Ben Cat on his brother’s motorbike and stayed at a tenanted house.
He kept 10 bullets at the house while the gun was hidden in a forest about two kilometers away.
At the police station, Duc claimed he committed the robbery to pocket some money for personal purposes.
Further investigation is ongoing.
