Vietnam congratulates Joe Biden on taking office as 46th US president

Vietnam’s Party chief and State President Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Thursday sent their messages of congratulations to Joe Biden on being sworn in as the 46th president of the United States of America.
Party General Secretary Trong and PM Phuc expressed their belief that President Biden and his administration will achieve new succes, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement the same day.
President Biden took office on Wednesday in U.S. time, which is Thursday in Vietnam time, after defeating then-President Donald Trump with 306 electoral votes in the November election.
The 46th U.S. president and his administration will make new achievements for the prosperity and happiness of the American people and continue making positive contributions to peace, stability, cooperation, and development around the world, the statement read.
The Vietnamese leaders believed that the Vietnam-U.S. ties will keep thriving in an effective and sustainable fashion on the back of their bilateral relations having been built over the past 25 years.
Vice-State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh also transmitted her message of congratulations to U.S. Vice-President Kamala Harris the same day.
